Various sounds are created (pure waveforms, rhythms, drones, noise etc.) and transferred to four ipod shuffles. Set to shuffle, the output from each one is fed into one of four channels on a Simmons SDS8 drum module1. The source sounds act as audio trigger inputs, generating new sounds via the oscillator of each channel (bass, snare, high tom and medium tom). The parameters of each channel are fully controllable, allowing alterations to input sensitivity, brightness, pitch, attack, decay and noise/tone ratio. Each channel's output is routed into a small mixer where final adjustments to panning and equalisation are made. Because of the 'shuffling' nature of the source inputs, each performance is reactive and wholly improvised.
