Another Force inc/ Mille Plateaux collapse disaster with this album. Following my 'Is this the end?' release under the Nost moniker on Force-inc, this album was scheduled to be released at the same time as 'Please dissolve in this' on Mille Plateaux but the label folded after the collapse of EFA, their sole distributor. Happily D1 Recordings stepped in and we eventually got the album out in 2004.

This is David Donohoe's second album and what a gem it is too. There's few people doing anything like this sort of thing: broad, sweeping cinematic techno incorporating live drums and guitar with gorgeous strings courtesy of the famed Mellotron all accompanied by off-kilter Shaffeltechno beats. Stand out tracks for me are Thou Mayest with its beautiful arrangement, melodies and harmonies; Grace with its infectious main melody and driving bassline and Darksome Jest for the wonderful way it opens up using a short cut up vocal snippet, perfectly arranged strings and the unusual melody played on tuned drinking glasses. The best thing about this album is how it works as a coherent whole though, there's clear themes that run through the whole endeavour which add greatly to the album as it is clear that this is not just a collection of singles but rather a more complete construction. As an addendum, aside from playing the guitar and doing the live drumming (along with all other instruments) all the artwork was designed by David Donohoe too. Highly recommended.
